Neese & Associates uses the latest software version and technology and trained to download and analyze the event data recorder data. Currently, the Bosch Crash Data Retrieval Software and Hardware is the only public means to downloading the data recorders.
VEHICLE EVENT DATA RECORDERS
The National Highway Transportation Safety Administration’s mission is to save lives, prevent injuries, and reduce health care and other economic costs associates with motor vehicle crashes. NHTSA recognized there was valuable crash data in the crashed vehicles stored throughout the country that they could use in their efforts if they could retrieve that data. That data was being stored in the vehicles’ airbag control modules with the development of the “smarter” airbags since 1996.
The Crash Data Retrieval is the result of that endeavor. As a result NHTSA has developed a uniform, national requirement for vehicles with event data recorders concerning the collection, storage and retrievability of onboard motor vehicle crash event data. All vehicles manufactured on or after September 1, 2012, if equipped with an event data recorder, must meet these requirements (Part 563). Prior to this date some of the automobile manufacturers voluntarily made their vehicle event data recorders available for retrieval.
